Jen Carlson

Program Manager, Veteran Outreach

Jen Carlson is the program manager for veteran outreach at YOUR6, where she brings more than a decade of experience in supporting active-duty service members, veterans and their families with career readiness and employment placement.

Carlson assisted more than 500 special operations forces service members, veterans and their families in creating customized career action plans in her 10 years working with the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Care Coalition and similar programs.

She specializes in developing robust networks of local, regional, national and global governmental agencies, nonprofits, educational institutions and corporations that support veterans’ integration into the civilian workplace through fellowships, education, training and employment. She routinely collaborated with the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs, private sector C-suites and nonprofit directors to raise awareness of veteran employment issues.

In her time with the USSOCOM Care Coalition, Carlson was instrumental in creating the Career Transition Initiative, which is considered the gold standard among the Office of the Secretary of Defense Warrior Care programs. She worked with companies at the Fortune 500 level down to mom-and-pop shops to secure career support for wounded or ill special operations forces through fellowships, job shadowing, mentorship and employment.

Carlson was most recently director of operations at the Operator Transition Assistance Corporation, where she translated military skills into civilian competencies and worked with service members and veterans to identify appropriate employment opportunities and career goals.

Carlson’s passion for the military stems from her childhood, growing up in an Army family in Germany. An intriguing conversation about the goals of YOUR6 with Doug Quitmeyer in the summer of 2016 led Carlson to follow YOUR6’s progress and, in 2017, Carlson decided to join YOUR6 to grow the veteran and VSO networks.

Carlson holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of South Florida and lives in Tampa with her husband, two daughters, two cats and dog. She spends most of her free time at the softball park, cheering her daughters. Carlson enjoys traveling, live music and is an insatiable bookworm.
